roadtrip to the beach

Everyone loves hopping in the car on a whim, not really knowing where they're going to end up, on a sunny, absolutely gorgeous afternoon. And that, is exactly what I did. Thanks to Natasha Bedingfield and her pocket full of sunshine, I blasted my stereo and headed in the direction of the beach. Single, Unwritten and These Words later, we found sun, sand, and water (unfortunately lake water... one can dream about oceans I guess).

I found a tye-dye scarf among my mess of a room (my closet has seemed to have exploded all over my floor..) I makeshifted it into a shirt, and paired it with a pair of jean shorts. Later, at the beach, I took it off and wore it as a headband.

An hour or so later, we were rushed off our beach towels by the sound of omnious thunder and bright flashes of lightning. Oh well, the time spent was ridiculously hot, and I got to witness a seagull swoop down and snatch a chicken finger straight from my brothers fingers, inches of him putting it in his mouth. It was quite a sight.

Yesterday I made a trip into Port Hope to see the lovely Ken Bell and visit his gorgeous jewelry store. We chatted for quite some time; about anything and everything, but mostly about how I will be working with him in the near future on a bunch of things. I'm pretty excited about it, because I will finally have a good reason to go into the store and stare at all the amazing designs for hours. I'm wearing a thrifted nautical skirt, worn as a top, with white shorts. I'm wearing a plastic knotted necklace and a red and orange beaded bracelet I designed.

These Johan Ku ‘Emotional Sculptures’ designs are chunky crocheted fabulosity. The insane crochet dresses look like a lot to carry around, but at least you’ll be warm in the winter! The artist has a background in textile studies and graphic designs, which give insight into how these creations are even possible.
Johan Ku creates his “organic-baroque” garments from wool tops with giant needles. The Johan Ku ‘Emotional Sculptures’ collection of garments is truly crocheted beauty.

it was love at first sight when I looked in your eyes...

I couldn't resist.

At first glance, these images look like some sort of devilish inspiration for graffiti on  a brick wall, or Ed Hardy designs suped up on steroids. But, these just so happen to be images from the launch of the new Alexander McQueen eye wear collection. The skulls are stunning and beautiful in a terrifying and deathly way, definitely making quite an impact. Alexander McQueen was known for his creative innovation, and it is carried on through his name. If skulls modeling eye wear doesn't classify creative genius, I am not sure what does.

le beach collection, with Pierre Le-Tan

Just when we thought the whimsical world of coach has outdone itself, it does it again. During my morning browse of Fashion Magazine.com, I was delighted to see that Coach has released a new line of handbags, wristlets, hats, t-shirts, bathingsuits, wraps, and much more. This line is perfect for breaking out just before that trip out west or east to the seashore. Even if you aren't heading to the coast, wear these gorgeous items proud in the city, to flaunt your seaworthy goodlooks.

Coach has collaborated with Pierre Le-Tan, a creative artist whose designs are highly influenced with a parisian look. They are absolutely divine, and many of these items will hopefully soon occupy my closet.

Ahh, the carefree life of the summer.

Danny Roberts: A cute artist who has done a recent collaboration with Forever21, magnificently drawing chic designs for a new line in their t-shirt collection. They are simply gorg, and give off a hip, Parisian feel. They are the perfect quick purchase for the summer months; a light and airy tank.
I discovered them this week when I visited forever21 for a bit of light shopping.
The collection debuted on the first of June.

Carolina Engman is a close friend to Danny Roberts, and he featured her on one of the T-Shirt designs.
Funnily enough, I came across Carolina Engman's fashion blog not too long ago, and fell in love with it. When I walked into Forever21 earlier this week, I immediately recognized the distinctive features of her face. Such a coincidence! Visit her blog HERE or vist her lookbook account HERE to see the amazing outfits she's put together. LOVE.

I am in love with his artwork and will one day possess enough of it to fill my house, and wardrobe!

Yesterday afternoon I had the lovely experience of coming across a cute little cafe and flowershop in downtown Bowmanville. I was on a shopping stroll with my mom, and the cute window display lured us in for a chai latte and pink and white roses.
Chai Latte Sips.

While sitting down and enjoying the afternoon burst of chai infusion, my mom and I watched the tedious perfection inspecting process as rose stem after rose stem was placed in a huge silver ice bucket. At one point it started to overflow and I decided right then and there that I want to have a rose fountain in my front yard... where rose petals are always flowing through the water...

The Flower Shop portion of the cafe was heavily into creating gorgeous wedding floral arrangements. This one was my favourite.

Our table. Complete with cute, inspiring chalkboard quotes.

We ventured to a cute antique shop down the street. The name Under the Toadstool definitely caught our eye.

With a lovely window display.

While rumaging through all the gems and jewels,  I found a display of beautiful vintage pearls. Audrey Hepburn kept popping up in my head afterwards..

If the pearls didn't excude elegance and luxury, these perfume bottles surely did. I miss the days where purchasing a perfume was a reflection on your personal image and style: everyone had to have a inticately designed perfume bottle to display in their powder room.

And of course, no vintage shop is complete without the vintage dresses. These were gorgeously hung from the ceiling, catching my eye as soon as I walked in. The patterns were possibly a tad over the top and did not suit the fashion of day to day dress styles, but they were pieces of artwork to be admired.

Yes, I wanted to try on white gloves. I found myself a pair... and a yellow hat.

Another display dripping with gemstones, pearls and jewels in exotic colours.

Jackpot: I have always had an obsession with Barbie, and now I can say that I have seen the original sewing instructions for Barbie's Seasons outfits.

All the pearls, antiques, and retro related treasures I found today inspired me to style an elegant, vintage outfit, locating the photoshoot in the jacuzzi... it seemed elegant enough.

My oufit consists of a black knee length vintage skirt transformed into a mini v-neck dress, paired with ripped black tights and POUNDS of pearls (literally).

I attached two strings of pearls together, and knotted the ends to create a focal point within the necklaces.
